Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has codified and approved the domestically produced Varkhan unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the ministry announced on October 5.

The Varkhan is designed primarily for military logistics missions, including transporting weapons, ammunition, equipment, and other supplies. According to the ministry, the system was developed by a Ukrainian defense company in response to operational requirements provided by the military.

The UGV is built on a four-wheel-drive 4×4 chassis with dependent suspension and ground clearance of more than 200 millimeters. Its design allows the vehicle to operate across difficult terrain, including off-road conditions, marshy ground, and sand.

The platform is also equipped with quick-release batteries, allowing operators to replace power sources and continue missions without extended interruptions.

During testing, the Varkhan demonstrated the ability to transport hundreds of kilograms of cargo over distances of several dozen kilometers, according to the Defense Ministry. The platform is also equipped with several communication and control systems.

The ministry said the UGV was designed for sustained operation in high-intensity combat conditions, with an emphasis on durability, straightforward controls, accessible spare parts and consumables, and ease of maintenance.

According to the statement, the Varkhan also forms part of a broader ecosystem of unmanned-system equipment that includes T-Bone ground control stations, antennas, masts, repeaters, and rotating mechanisms. Together, these components are designed to provide integrated control of unmanned systems and maintain stable communications.

Ukrainian forces in the Sumy region managed to retrieve an unmanned ground vehicle damaged by a mine after receiving help from a local woman who happened to be cycling past the area, Ukraine’s 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade reported.

The brigade said the UGV struck a mine during a combat mission, putting the damaged vehicle at risk of being lost.
