Russian drone strikes late on November 25 injured at least 19 people and damaged more than 50 residential buildings in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, according to the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration on November 25.

Regional officials said Russian forces launched a mass drone attack on the regional center at around 22:00 local time, with Ukrainian air defenses shooting down part of the incoming UAVs.

The head of the regional administration, Ivan Fedorov, said the assault destroyed several shops and damaged 31 apartment buildings and 20 private houses across three districts of the city.  Five of the high-rise blocks were hit hardest as large fires broke out after the strikes, and a dormitory of an educational institution was also struck while people were inside, authorities reported.

“As of now, 19 people are known to have been wounded, eight of them remain in hospital,” the regional administration said, warning that the figures could change as more residents seek medical help.  The attack left 358 customers in Zaporizhzhia without electricity and 201 residents without a gas supply.

Fedorov added that rescue and recovery operations were underway at a dozen locations across the city, with firefighters, police, and medical teams deployed to the sites. Municipal crews worked through the night to board up shattered windows, repair roofs and seal damaged apartments, while engineers began inspecting structures that had suffered the heaviest damage.

Ukraine’s air force said it shot down 72 of 90 drones and two ballistic missiles launched by Russia in a country-wide overnight attack that also targeted other regions, describing the barrage as part of an ongoing campaign against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Earlier, it was reported that a Russian drone attack on Zaporizhzhia injured at least ten people and damaged residential buildings, businesses, and a university building in the city.
