25 Patriot Defense Systems Are Needed to Safeguard Ukrainian Skies Against Russian Threats

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that 25 Patriot air defense systems are necessary to fully protect the skies over Ukraine from Russian aerial attacks. He made this announcement during a press conference on July 15.

Zelenskyy emphasized that in order to completely secure Ukraine with air defense, a contract needs to be concluded with the United States, as it is the country where most of this production is located.

"When it comes to air defense systems, such a quantity of systems exists only in one country – the United States," Zelenskyy said.

Additionally, he noted that for sky protection, it's not only Patriot systems that are required.

"Because air defense operates as a complex. But of course, Patriot is the most crucial in this system because it deals with ballistic threats... I cannot say how many we already have. But I can say that to completely cover the skies over Ukraine, 25 Patriot systems are needed," Zelenskyy emphasized.

He also reminded that NATO Summit decisions included allocating five Patriot systems to Ukraine.

"There was a decision at the NATO Summit to allocate 5 Patriots and it’s a significant sign," added Zelenskyy.
