Approximately 400 Ukrainian children have enrolled in the first state Ukrainian-Hungarian bilingual school in Budapest.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on social media.

“This is an important step for the relationship between Ukraine and Hungary. A state school has opened in Budapest where children have already begun learning in both Ukrainian and Hungarian. Around 400 Ukrainian children are now students there,” the President stated.

Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the entire team that worked towards this achievement, as well as to the teachers and community leaders who help preserve the Ukrainian language.

On August 23, Budapest saw the opening of the first state bilingual secondary school and gymnasium for Ukrainian children, where they will be taught Ukrainian from the 1st to the 12th grade. Hungarian will be taught as a foreign language.

The financing of the educational institution is carried out using the state budget of Hungary.

The establishment of this educational institution resulted from agreements made between President Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán during Orbán’s visit to Kyiv in July of this year.
