Aliyev: Azerbaijan’s Support for Ukraine’s Territorial Integrity Is “Unequivocal”

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has reiterated his country’s firm support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that Baku’s position has not changed since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, in his interview with the Saudi television channel Al Arabiya on August 26.
Aliyev underlined that Azerbaijan was among the first countries to publicly back Kyiv’s territorial integrity when the war broke out in February 2022.
“Our position on this issue is unequivocal. From the very first days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, we have supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity and continue to do so,” he said.
Aliyev also touched on Azerbaijan’s broader relationship with Russia, emphasizing that Baku’s support for Ukraine has been consistent despite its complex ties with Moscow. “Returning to the question of Azerbaijani-Russian relations, I want to stress that our stance has remained unchanged. We respect the sovereignty of all states, and Ukraine is no exception,” he noted.
Since the start of the full scale invasion, Azerbaijan has provided humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, including energy supplies, medical aid, and financial support. Baku sent generators and power equipment to help Ukraine overcome blackouts caused by Russian missile strikes on its energy infrastructure.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian pro-war media launched a coordinated propaganda campaign against Azerbaijan following Aliyev’s statements supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Russian voices claimed rising “Russophobia” and even suggested that the Caspian might become a new conflict zone.
