Argentina and France in Talks to Transfer Super Etendard Attack Aircraft to Ukraine

Authors

Argentina and France are reportedly in discussions regarding the transfer of Super Etendard attack aircraft to Ukraine. Currently rendered inoperable due to a UK-imposed embargo following the Falklands War, the aircraft may find utility in Ukraine’s military arsenal.

According to reports from Infobae, Argentina is actively engaging with France to navigate the geopolitical hurdles surrounding the transfer. Chancellor Diana Mondino and Defense Minister Luis Petri have purportedly been involved in negotiations for weeks, with the tacit involvement of the United States and NATO.

The proposed transfer involves five decommissioned Super Etendard combat aircraft, currently housed at the Espora Air Base in Puerto Belgrano. Hindered by the lack of necessary ejection seat cartridges, a consequence of the UK embargo, Argentina has been unable to utilize these aircraft since their arrival.

It is anticipated that France will undertake repairs and facilitate the transfer of the aircraft to Ukraine.

Earlier, President Emmanuel Macron of France announced during a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings that France would transfer Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine.
