Attack drones struck the Saratov Oil Refinery, a critical hub in Russia’s fuel infrastructure, Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, reported on February 11.

“The Saratov Oil Refinery was attacked. This isn’t the first time,” Kovalenko stated, emphasizing the refinery’s strategic role in Russia’s military logistics.

“The refinery processes up to 7 million tons of oil annually and plays a vital role in supplying fuel to the Russian army. It was a crucial logistics site even during World War II, and it remains a key part of the fuel supply chain today.”

Russian Telegram channel Astra confirmed a fire at the refinery, citing videos from local residents showing flames and smoke rising from the site.

Later, Roman Busargin, governor of the Saratov region, confirmed the attack, stating that there was “damage at an industrial facility” but did not specify the exact site targeted.

Residents in Engels, a nearby city, also reported loud explosions near the Engels-2 airbase, home to Russia’s strategic bombers, including the Tu-95MS and Tu-160, which are used to launch missile strikes against Ukraine. Kovalenko confirmed a strike on Engels too.

The Saratov Oil Refinery, known locally as the “Kreking” plant, is located in the city’s Zavodskoy District and operates under Russian oil giant Rosneft.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed the attack. They noted this refinery mainly produces gasoline, fuel oil, and diesel fuel. In total, it produces more than 20 types of petroleum products. The company is involved in supplying the Russian occupation army.

“A hit has been confirmed. A fire broke out at the facility,” General Staff wrote.

Earlier, operators of the 14th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Aerial Systems, in coordination with other components of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, struck the infrastructure of the “Engels-2” military airfield near Russia’s Saratov.
