Ukraine’s military intelligence reportedly carried out a special operation inside Russia’s Far East on September 16, targeting troops from the notorious 155th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade, Ukrainian media outlet Interfax-Ukraine reported on September 16.

According to sources in Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate (HUR), the strike took place in the village of Shchitovaya in Primorsky Krai, where Russia’s 47th Separate Air Assault Battalion of the 155th Brigade is based.

The unit has fought in Kyiv, Vuhledar, Mariupol, and more recently on the Kursk and Pokrovsk fronts. Ukrainian officials have accused the 155th Brigade of committing atrocities, including executions of prisoners of war.

At around 9 a.m. local time, a powerful explosion reportedly rocked the parking lot of a military facility, followed shortly after by a second blast.

Russian social media channels claimed security forces and emergency crews rushed to the scene, while helicopters circled overhead. Roads around administrative buildings and parking areas were partially blocked, with vehicles subjected to searches.

Local Russian authorities blamed the incident on a supposed “gas equipment accident.” However, Ukrainian intelligence sources stated the explosions were the result of a planned operation targeting “war criminals.”

An eyewitness told the Russian Telegram channel VChK-OGPU: “There was a very strong explosion around 6:20 a.m. Panic began. Then everyone arrived, including the military, and a helicopter appeared in the sky. The soldiers told us it was just training.”

While Russian officials initially claimed there were no casualties, Ukrainian sources insist that several Russian servicemen were killed or injured. “We are waiting for the obituaries to appear in Vladivostok media and channels,” Interfax reported, citing HUR sources.

Earlier, HUR released a radio intercept in which a Russian commander from the 155th Separate Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet is heard ordering the execution of one of his own wounded soldiers.
