Borrell Calls on EU to Back Ukraine’s Right to Strike Deep Inside Russia

Ukraine must have the ability to use long-range weapons against Russian territory, and European Union countries should support this stance, said the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

This was reported by The Guardian citing Borrell ahead of a meeting with EU foreign ministers in Brussels.

The EU chief diplomat expressed hope that member states would eventually decide to allow Ukraine to use weapons for strikes inside Russia.

"I’ve said it repeatedly: Ukraine must be able to use the weapons we’ve provided not only to stop the arrows but to target the archers," Borrell stated.

He emphasized his confidence that EU member states would revisit the issue, adding, "I hope the member states will reach a consensus on this matter."

Previously, various media outlets reported that the Biden administration authorized the first use of US-supplied weapons by Ukraine for deep strikes into Russian territory.
