Bosnian citizen Dario Ristić, who fought in Ukraine as a serviceman of the Russian army, was arrested last week at Sarajevo International Airport upon returning to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As confirmed to the portal Radiosarajevo.ba on September 22, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a decision to accept the proposal of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, placing Ristić in custody for a period of up to one month—until October 18, 2025—or until another ruling by the Court.

“After reviewing the prosecutor’s request, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 19, 2025, issued a decision in the case of Dario Ristić, ordering the suspect into custody,” the Court announced.

According to the outlet, Ristić is currently being held in the state prison in Vojkovići.

Ristić’s lawyer said his client decided to surrender to the judicial authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina after learning of an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol for his participation in foreign armed formations.

Bosnian soldier was also sought for war crimes committed on foreign battlefields. He took part in Russia’s war against Ukraine as a member of the “Perm Bears” unit, which also included volunteers from Serbia. During the fighting in Ukraine, he was severely wounded, an injury that ultimately led to the amputation of his leg.

Earlier, Latvian security services detained a man in Riga on suspicion of espionage for Russia, including the transfer of secret data about military bases and NATO operations.
