Canadian PM Carney: Putin Avoiding Meeting With Zelenskyy Out of Fear

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Russian leader Vladimir Putin is afraid to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss an end to the war. He made the remarks during a press conference, according to a correspondent from Ukrinform on August 27.
“President Putin keeps setting conditions and delaying because he fears this meeting,” Carney said.
Carney added that Zelenskyy is ready to meet Putin “on any neutral territory.”

“That means he does not expect Putin to visit Kyiv, nor does he plan to go to Moscow for the meeting. But any location is acceptable,” the Canadian prime minister explained.
He emphasized that it remains crucial for allies to continue supporting Ukraine until such a meeting can take place.
Previously, it was reported that Carney announced in Kyiv on August 24 that Canada will transfer a $1.5 billion package of military assistance to Ukraine in September. The announcement was made during his visit to mark Ukraine’s 34th Independence Day.
Ukraine and Canada had also signed an agreement to expand joint defense production, including the manufacturing of drones and counter-drone systems.
