Chechen Leader Kadyrov Rejects Any Peace Talks With Ukraine During Kremlin Meeting

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said he opposed peace talks with Ukraine and favored continuing the war until Russia “takes Ukraine completely,” according to The Moscow Times on January 29.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to the Kremlin as the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, hosted UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Kadyrov was quoted as saying, “I believe the war must be taken to its conclusion… I am against negotiations,” and urging Kyiv to accept “all” of Moscow’s terms.

Asked what outcome he expected from the scheduled February 1 talks in Abu Dhabi between Russian and Ukrainian delegations, Kadyrov said he did not know, adding, “I am for ending the war. For taking Ukraine completely.”
Kadyrov’s appearance at the Kremlin drew attention amid renewed public discussion of his health and succession in recent weeks, after periods of reduced public visibility that some have linked to online rumors about his condition and sporadic death hoaxes.

The remarks came as Washington-led contacts aimed at ending the nearly four-year war have continued, with Reuters reporting that a new round of Abu Dhabi talks between Russian and Ukrainian negotiating teams is set for February 1.
Kremlin has reiterated that it would prefer to achieve its objectives through diplomacy but would pursue them by military means if diplomacy is not possible.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine remains committed to diplomatic efforts for peace while urging Western partners for more decisive action and responding to Russia’s military pressure, including remarks about Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s role in the war.
