Adam Kadyrov, the 17-year-old son of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, has been appointed curator of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) in the Chechen Republic.

The announcement was made during a ministry meeting on March 31 and later confirmed by the Russian state media Tass.

According to MVD head Aslan Iraskhanov, the appointment was made at the direction of Ramzan Kadyrov. In his new role, Adam Kadyrov introduced Timur Musanguzov, a deputy minister, as the new head of the ministry’s operational-investigative division of internal security. He also awarded eight ministry personnel with the title “Hero of the Chechen Republic.”

This is the latest in a series of leadership roles held by Adam Kadyrov in regional security structures despite his age.

In November 2023, at 15 years old, he was appointed head of the Security Department for the Head of the Chechen Republic, earning a place in the Russian Book of Records as the youngest person to lead a government body.

Throughout 2023 and 2024, Kadyrov has been assigned several supervisory roles over security-related institutions. These include the Russian University of Special Forces in Gudermes and military units such as the Ministry of Defense’s Baisangur Benoevsky Battalion and the Sheikh Mansur Battalion.

In all these cases, public reporting of his duties has largely been limited to appearances at formal ceremonies, and there is no detailed information about the scope of his responsibilities.

Earlier, Ramzan Kadyrov announced plans to send 84,000 Chechen residents to fight in Ukraine, framing the deployment as voluntary enlistment rather than formal mobilization, according to the National Resistance Center.
