Russian Troop Losses Reach 124,170 Over Summer, Up 25.8% From Spring

Russian forces lost 124,170 personnel on the battlefield during the three summer months of 2026, including more than 42,000 in August, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on September 1.
According to the General Staff, Russian personnel losses amounted to 39,290 in June, increased to 42,860 in July, and reached 42,020 in August.

“In total, over the three summer months, the enemy lost 124,170 personnel. In June—39,290 personnel, in July—42,860 personnel, and in August—42,020 personnel,” the General Staff said.
The Ukrainian military said the total represented a significant increase compared with Russian personnel losses recorded during the spring.

“Thus, over the three summer months of 2026, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck 25.8% more enemy personnel than during the corresponding period in the spring,” the General Staff added.
The figures come amid indications that Russia is struggling to replace its battlefield losses at the same pace. According to Western officials cited by The Guardian, Russia is suffering around 6,000 more troop casualties in Ukraine each month than it is able to replace through recruitment.
Despite recruiting roughly 1,000 people per day over the past two months, Russia’s intake of new personnel has reportedly remained below the number of troops killed and wounded on the battlefield.
Drone units have also contributed to Russian personnel and equipment losses over the summer. Ukrainian drone operators with the Signum Battalion struck more than 700 Russian personnel during the three-month period, while also targeting a significant number of Russian vehicles, logistics assets, and electronic warfare systems, the unit reported on September 1.
