“We discussed in detail the activity on the front with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since the beginning of 2026, Russian losses on the front have already amounted to more than 145,000 personnel. In particular, nearly 86,000 were killed, at least 59,000 were seriously wounded, and more than 800 Russian servicemen were taken prisoner,” Zelenskyy said.
He noted that Ukrainian forces are achieving their objectives in the border areas of the Sumy region. Zelenskyy also said that Ukrainian units continue to destroy Russian manpower and equipment across other directions.

The President particularly praised the accuracy of Ukrainian drone operators and highlighted ongoing active operations involving airborne and assault units. He thanked all Ukrainian units for their results on the battlefield.
Just a day earlier, Major Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, said that in May 2026 Ukraine’s unmanned systems units recorded what they described as a record level of battlefield activity, with more than 19,000 Russian personnel affected in under three weeks.

He added that units directly subordinated to the Unmanned Systems Forces accounted for more than 6,000 of the reported losses.
Additionally, over the past 24 hours, Russian forces lost an additional 880 personnel, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on May 22.
The latest data indicates that since the start of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Russia’s estimated total personnel losses have reached approximately 1,353,860.
