Ukraine Destroys Russian Ka-52 and Mi-28 Attack Helicopters in Drone Strike on Sochi Airport

Ukrainian forces destroyed two Russian attack helicopters—a Ka-52 and a Mi-28—and damaged a Mi-8-family multipurpose helicopter during a drone strike on Sochi International Airport in southern Russia.

Satellite imagery published by the open-source Telegram channel “Absolutely Reliable Source” shows damage to the three helicopters following the September 4 attack.

The strike targeted several facilities around Sochi Airport and the nearby Adler area, including aviation fuel infrastructure and Russian air defense positions.

At the BATO fuel depot near the airport, Ukrainian drones destroyed six storage tanks—two RVS-2000 tanks and four RVS-1000 tanks. The facility handles the reception, storage, quality control, and fueling of aviation fuel for airports in Russia’s Krasnodar region.

A nearby Lukoil oil depot was also hit, with three RVS-400 storage tanks destroyed or damaged, according to satellite imagery.

The same operation also struck a Russian S-300 or S-400 surface-to-air missile system near Sochi, causing the detonation of one of its launchers.

Earlier, on March 20, a Ukrainian FPV drone shot down a Russian Ka-52 attack helicopter near Pokrovsk. The aircraft, estimated to cost around $16 million, was targeted by operators of Ukraine’s 59th Separate Assault Brigade of Unmanned Systems.
