Ukrainian intelligence has obtained classified Russian documents revealing that the irreversible losses of the Russian army have exceeded 1.3 million people, with a significant increase in the proportion of fatalities among these losses, including the dead and severely wounded.

This information was shared by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following a report from the head of Ukraine's Military Intelligence, Oleh Ivashchenko on March 10.

“We have reasons to believe that these loss figures are understated,” Zelenskyy said.

The report also highlighted the shift in the ratio between fatalities and wounded, with 62% of Russian losses being deaths and 38% being injuries.

Intelligence sources further indicate that Russia is looking to capitalize on the growing tensions in Iran and the potential prolongation of US military operations in the region. The Kremlin aims to exploit the conflict in the Middle East to shift global attention away from the war in Ukraine.

Russia’s current objectives include lifting sanctions, completely removing restrictions on energy exports, profiting from the fluctuations in oil and gas prices, and enhancing military cooperation with North Korea.

In light of these developments, Zelenskyy has ordered intelligence agencies to intensify their efforts to monitor Russia's military production.

While Russia struggles with these heavy losses, it is also facing significant challenges on the battlefield. Pavlo Palisa, deputy head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, revealed in a March 1 interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that it would take Russia approximately a year and a half to fully capture the Donbas region, but only at the cost of losing its entire military force currently deployed in occupied Ukrainian territories.

Despite continuous offensive operations, Palisa noted that Russian advances remain slow, with the country suffering devastating casualties.

He pointed out that, throughout 2025, Russian forces managed to capture less than 1% of Ukraine’s total territory, paying a heavy human toll—more than 450,000 Russian soldiers.

As of now, Ukraine’s Defense Forces retain control over about 6,000 square kilometers of the Donetsk region. Based on the current state of the war, Palisa emphasized that Russia would require substantial additional time and immense losses to occupy the rest of the region.

Earlier, it was reported that due to a critical shortage of frontline troops, Russian military leadership on the Kherson front has started deploying medical personnel to active combat duties.
