Commenting on Events in Russia's Kursk Region, EU Reaffirms Ukraine’s Right to Self-Defense
In light of the escalating conflict in Russia’s Kursk region, the European Union has affirmed Ukraine’s right to self-defense, including the capability to strike within the aggressor’s territory. European Commission spokesperson for external affairs, Peter Stano, stated that according to international law, Ukraine has the right to defend its territory and restore its sovereignty.
“The European Union fully supports Ukraine’s legitimate right to defend itself against Russian aggression, as well as its efforts to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Stano said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the United States has requested clarification from Ukrainian officials regarding the events on the Kursk border. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby indicated that US officials plan to contact their Ukrainian counterparts to gain a better understanding of the situation.
“We have not altered our policy regarding the use of American weapons by Ukraine. The weapons are to be used against immediate threats, particularly in the border zone,” Kirby clarified.
It is also noted that recent reports from Russian military bloggers about the capture of the city of Sudzha, coupled with the reactions from Russia, have led to an increase in European natural gas prices.
