Czech PM’s Account Hacked With False Claim of Russian Attack Near Kaliningrad

A false report claiming that Russian forces had attacked Czech troops near the Kaliningrad border was posted to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s X account, with the post quickly debunked as the result of a cyberattack, according to Reuters, on April 8.
The Prime Minister’s office confirmed that Fiala’s account had been hacked in the morning hours. Among the fabricated posts was a message suggesting a direct Russian assault on Czech military units—a claim the government swiftly denied.
“The post about an attack on Czech soldiers is not true,” said government spokesperson Lucie Míhút Jesetková.
The message—written in Czech—alleging Russian military aggression near Kaliningrad was later deleted from Fiala’s account. Additional posts in both Czech and English about the Czech Republic’s reaction to American tariffs were also removed.

Fiala’s X account, which has over 366,000 followers, appeared to be the sole target of the cyber intrusion.
Earlier, Ukraine’s state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, experienced a large-scale, targeted cyberattack that disrupted its online systems.
Ukrzaliznytsia, the country’s national railway operator, is a key component of Ukraine’s civilian and logistics infrastructure, providing critical passenger and cargo transportation across the country and to international destinations.
