Czech Republic to Deliver 100,000 Rounds of Ammunition to Ukraine This Summer
Thanks to the Czech ammunition initiative, 100,000 rounds of ammunition will be delivered to Ukraine during July and August, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský said on Monday.
"During July and August we will send about a total of 100,000 more rounds of ammunition. From September these deliveries will accelerate," Lipavský told reporters in Brussels.
In February 2024, the Czech initiative was announced to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with 50,000 to 100,000 large-caliber shells monthly. The Czech ammunition initiative looks for artillery ammunition for Ukraine in countries outside the European Union.
"During July and August, we will send a total of 100,000 more pieces of ammunition. Now we are looking for money to buy more ammunition so that the initiative can continue in 2025," Lipavský told reporters. "We could deliver up to 800,000 units this year if we had the money," he added.
According to Lipavský, 18 countries have joined the initiative so far, and 15 of them have already fulfilled their promises and contributed. It means that there are enough funds to deliver 500,000 pieces of ammunition to Ukraine by the end of the year.
Lipavský also noted that Russia is trying to disrupt the initiative, which is why the Czech Republic does not disclose where it receives ammunition from.
