Czech arms manufacturer Czechoslovak Group (CSG) and Ukrainian company Ukrainian Armor plan to begin the production of 155mm shells and other large-caliber ammunition in Ukraine starting in 2025, reported CSG on October 3.

Richard Kubena, commercial director of CSG Defence, explained that the agreement to localize the production of tank and artillery ammunition in Ukraine was driven by the understanding of how crucial it is for Kyiv to manufacture military equipment domestically.

“This initiative stems from CSG owner Michal Strnad’s vision to transfer and localize production, and unlike other companies, we have signed an agreement to implement it,” Kubena said.

Under the agreement signed on October 2 at the International Defence Industry Forum (DFNC2) in Kyiv, CSG will provide Ukrainian Armor with the necessary expertise and support to begin producing 155mm shells.

The collaboration aims to produce 100,000 units of ammunition in 2025, with annual production expected to exceed 300,000 units by 2026. According to CSG, the manufacturing will take place both in Czechia and Ukraine, covering several types of large-caliber munitions.

The company also noted that “CSG is one of the companies that supported Ukraine long before the Russian military aggression. Already in 2018, CSG member companies delivered dozens of self-propelled howitzers and infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine.”

Adding that “Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Czechoslovak Group member companies have done more significant deliveries of military equipment to Ukraine, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, self-propelled howitzers and air defence systems.”
