Daily Update: Russia Loses 1,040 Troops, 82 Artillery Systems in One Day

Russian forces sustained another wave of heavy losses over the past 24 hours, with 1,040 troops killed or wounded and seven armored combat vehicles destroyed, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on April 21.

According to updated figures, Russia’s total losses since the start of its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, have reached approximately 1,320,310 personnel.

The latest daily report also lists significant equipment losses, including 82 artillery systems and one multiple launch rocket system. Ukrainian forces additionally neutralized 1,905 operational-tactical level drones and nearly 200 vehicles and fuel tankers over the same period.

Cumulative Russian losses now stand at 11,884 tanks, 24,429 armored fighting vehicles, 40,478 artillery systems, and 1,749 MLRS units. Air defense systems remain at 1,350, while aircraft and helicopter losses are unchanged at 435 and 350, respectively.

Russia has also lost 250,463 drones and 4,549 cruise missiles since the beginning of the war.

Ukrainian officials reported 174 combat engagements along the front line in the past day, underscoring continued high-intensity fighting across multiple sectors.

In addition to battlefield losses, Russian forces carried out a wide range of strikes against Ukrainian positions and civilian areas.

Over the past 24 hours, Russia launched one missile strike using two missiles, conducted 78 airstrikes dropping 239 guided aerial bombs, and deployed 8,953 strike drones. Ukrainian positions and settlements were also hit by 3,232 attacks, including 101 strikes involving multiple launch rocket systems.

Earlier, Russian forces attempted to break through Ukrainian positions in the Sumy region by moving through a gas pipeline near the village of Yablunivka, while simultaneously launching a diversionary assault using motorcycles.

The attempted infiltration ended with significant losses for Russian forces. Ukrainian troops reported 35 killed and 17 wounded, along with the destruction of three motorcycles and four all-terrain vehicles used in the assault.
