Russian forces operating near Vovchansk in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region have been cut off from their main supply lines following a strike on the Belgorod Reservoir dam inside Russia, according to Ukraine’s 16th Army Corps on October 26.

The attack reportedly caused a sharp drop in water levels and disrupted logistics along the Siverskyi Donets River.

The 16th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that after the strike, “units that managed to cross the Siverskyi Donets have been effectively isolated from their main forces.” The Ukrainian command added that flooding had affected Russian defensive positions and underground shelters in the area.

According to NEXTA Live, drones struck the Belgorod Reservoir dam overnight, damaging key sections of the structure and leading to a water release toward Ukrainian territory.

The resulting surge flooded Russian trenches and logistical routes near the villages of Hrafivka and along the Siverskyi Donets.

Local authorities in Russia’s Shebekino district confirmed the flooding of at least ten areas and announced partial evacuations. The damage reportedly threatens four Russian brigades—identified as the 128th, 116th, 68th, and 136th—operating on the Vovchansk front.

Throughout the summer, Russian forces sought to exploit low water levels in the Siverskyi Donets and Vovcha rivers to improve supply routes and conduct offensive operations, Ukrainian officials said.

The 16th Army Corps reported that Moscow’s troops achieved limited tactical gains but suffered “heavy losses,” with some battalions nearly losing combat capability.

The strike on the Belgorod dam marks a shift in the operational environment, as rising water levels have disrupted Russian logistics and hampered their movement across the river.

Earlier in April 2025, Ukraine’s 66th Mechanized Brigade confirmed the first-ever destruction of Russia’s rare KRVD temporary road deployment vehicle.

The system, designed for rapid river crossings, was targeted by FPV drones as it attempted to deploy a temporary bridge across the Chornyi Zherebets River. The attack blocked the crossing route entirely, hindering Russian armored maneuvers in the sector.
