Drone Footage Exposes Russian Soldiers Killing Their Own Wounded on the Battlefield

Russian soldiers are increasingly killing their own wounded on the battlefield, according to drone footage and Ukrainian military reports. With no proper evacuation system in place, injured troops are often executed by their comrades—either shot or beaten to death—rather than left behind.
Footage from Ukrainian reconnaissance drones has repeatedly shown Russian soldiers killing their own wounded comrades along the front lines. In one recent video circulating online, a wounded Russian lies in a trench, visibly moving his arms and head. Another soldier approaches, briefly inspects him, then strikes him in the head three times with a rifle butt, crushing his skull. Without hesitation, the soldier steps over the body and continues on.

Similar scenes have appeared before. In June 2024, another video showed three Russian troops coming under attack from a Ukrainian strike drone. One was wounded and collapsed, only to be immediately shot in the head by a fellow soldier running behind him. Comparable footage also surfaced in October 2024 and March 2025—one clip appears to show a Russian serviceman gunning down a lightly wounded comrade who was slowly walking away.
Military analyst Julian Röpcke of BILD explains that these executions are often the result of Russia’s failure to establish proper evacuation units for advancing troops. A Ukrainian soldier stationed near Pokrovsk told BILD that Russian assault groups operate under what he described as a “one-way street.”

“There’s only one direction for them,” he said. “Either they complete the mission or they die. If we wound them, their only chance of survival is to make it back on their own. Otherwise, they bleed out in some basement over the next few hours or days.”
Or, Röpcke adds, they’re simply executed by their fellow soldiers.
Previously, Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate has released a radio intercept in which a Russian commander from the 155th Separate Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet is heard ordering the execution of one of his own wounded soldiers, as was reported by Hromadske on July 19.
