Entire Family, Including 18-Month-Old, Believed Killed in Russian Strike on Kharkiv Home

A family is believed to have been killed in Kharkiv following a Russian strike—a mother, father, their 18-month-old daughter, a 16-year-old son, and the children’s grandmother, according to preliminary data from Serhii Bolvinov, head of the Kharkiv regional police investigation department.
Authorities are now using DNA testing to confirm the family ties of the victims.
“A man and a woman, their 16-year-old son, and his 18-month-old sister. We also have information that the grandmother had come to visit them the day before. Her body was found under the rubble, and her identity is being confirmed through DNA analysis,” Bolvinov wrote.

Police chief Petro Tokar told Suspilne that among the dead were a 46-year-old father and his young daughter.
“We have also confirmed the death of a 67-year-old woman. It has already been established that the man and child were father and daughter, while the woman’s relation to the family is still being determined,” he said.
Tokar added that all the strikes hit a single house.
“We see this was a residential area, but why it was targeted is something we still cannot understand,” he noted.
Russian forces launched a deadly overnight attack on Kharkiv’s Industrialnyi district, striking the city with missiles and drones, according to the Kharkiv governor Oleh Syniehubov on August 18.
As of 11:32 a.m. Kharkiv city Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that the number of people killed in the Russian airstrike on the city has increased to seven.
