In Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, where the situation on the frontline is currently the most critical, 1,327 civilians remain. Evacuation of residents beyond the city limits is now almost impossible.

This was reported by Donetsk Regional Military Administration head Vadym Filashkin via Telegram on August 13.

According to Filashkin, Russian forces are positioned just about one kilometer from Pokrovsk, yet Ukraine’s Defense Forces are making every effort to hold back the occupiers.

“As for evacuation, without the Defense Forces it is almost impossible. The enemy is targeting almost all access roads with fiber-optic FPV drones, and a huge number of people are being injured. … At present, it is only possible to leave with the support of the Defense Forces,” Filashkin said.

The head of the regional administration stressed that before the situation deteriorated, residents of Pokrovsk were repeatedly urged to leave the city. However, not everyone agreed to abandon their homes.

Despite attempts to evacuate civilians, Russian forces have repeatedly targeted those fleeing frontline areas. The dangers were starkly illustrated on May 17, when nine civilians were killed and at least four others injured after a Russian drone strike hit an evacuation bus near the town of Bilopillia in Ukraine’s Sumy region, local authorities reported.

“This was an evacuation bus. People were being transported out of the city when a Lancet drone, guided by a reconnaissance UAV, hit the vehicle outside Bilopillia,” said Yurii Zarko, head of the local community.

The strike occurred at approximately 06:17 local time, shortly after the bus had departed Bilopillia on its way to Sumy.

Earlier, due to the worsening security situation in the Donetsk region, Ukrainian authorities ordered the mandatory evacuation of children and their parents from settlements in the Kostiantynivka and Selydove municipalities.
