Estonian Parliament Hosts “Mama” Photo Exhibition Honoring Ukrainian Mothers

The Estonian Parliament has opened a photo exhibition titled “Mama,” organized by the Free Mariupol Association and the Open Estonia Foundation, ahead of Mother’s Day, reported Congress of Ukrainians of Estonia on May 8.
The exhibition features portraits of Ukrainian women who lost their sons in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Lauri Hussar, Speaker of the Estonian Parliament, inaugurated the exhibition, describing it as one of the most somber displays ever hosted in the parliamentary gallery.
“The genocide committed by Russia against Ukraine is brutal and unjust. We cannot ease the pain of Ukrainian mothers, but we can ensure that abducted Ukrainian children are returned home, and the aggressor is held accountable,” Hussar stated.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Estonia Maksym Kononenko expressed gratitude for Estonia’s continued support for Ukraine, while photographer Svitlana Korablyova, who captured the images, addressed attendees via video call. She highlighted the resilience of the mothers in the photographs, noting that despite their grief, they continue to engage in volunteer work.

The opening ceremony featured a performance of the song “I Am Near…” by Karina Karaulshchikova.

Natalia Logozynska, founder of the Free Mariupol Association, thanked Estonian partners for their unwavering support of Ukrainian refugees and their role in making the exhibition possible.
Earlier, the multimedia exhibition “Beyond the Silence,” a collaboration between Odesa Photo Days Festival and Magnum Photos, opened at the Jam Factory Art Center in Lviv, Ukraine.
The exhibition creates a visual dialogue among photographers from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Nigeria, and Myanmar, highlighting their shared stories, experiences, and reflections on common challenges.
