The EU Council approved the draft security agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on June 25.

Hadja Lahbib, head of Belgium’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced this during a press conference on the EU Council’s General Affairs meeting, which was also preparing for the upcoming European Council summit in Brussels later this week.

“This meeting will provide a comprehensive view of our support for Ukraine in all forms. I also want to highlight that this morning, the EU Council endorsed the draft of joint security commitments between the EU and Ukraine,” said Lahbib.

Earlier reports indicated that the EU Council would approve the text of the security agreement between Ukraine and the EU on June 25, with signing expected shortly thereafter, “likely on Wednesday or Thursday.”

It was also reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to attend the European Union summit in Brussels on Thursday, June 27.

Last week, the Office of the President announced the completion of final negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union on the bilateral security document, with the agreement set to be signed in the near future.
