EU Funds Russia’s War for 18 Months, Paying $220 Billion for Energy
European Union countries have paid Russia $220 billion (€204 billion) for energy resources since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, reported Ukrainian media UA War Infographics on October 28, citing Russia Fossil Tracker data.
While EU states have reduced their consumption of Russian energy, imports continue to fund the Russian budget, with energy exports remaining Moscow’s primary revenue source.
With Russian daily expenses for waging war in Ukraine being estimated at $392,6 million (€363,3 million) Germany’s payments have reportedly financed around 79 days of Russia’s war expenses, while Poland’s payments have covered approximately 30 days of Russian war against Ukraine.
Earlier, Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 plant, burdened by heavy Western sanctions, halted its liquefied natural gas (LNG) production.
