EU to Establish Black Sea Maritime Security Hub to Counter Regional Threats, Kallas Says

The European Union is preparing to establish a maritime security hub in the Black Sea to enhance threat detection and protect critical infrastructure, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas announced, as reported by Bloomberg on May 28.
The initiative reflects the EU’s heightened focus on regional security following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to Kallas, the proposed hub would boost surveillance capabilities and provide early warning of potential threats. The gathered intelligence would be shared with Ukraine and other Black Sea nations where possible.

She also proposed convening a dedicated EU ministerial meeting with regional partners to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the area.
Earlier, the Council of the European Union had approved the launch of a new financial instrument, the Security and Defense Initiative for Europe, aimed at strengthening the EU’s defense industry and ensuring sustained support for Ukraine.
