EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová announced that Ukraine could join the European Union by 2030, contingent on a victory in the war.

Mathernová made the statement during the "Ukraine 2050: Dialogues About the Future" event on November 14.

When asked about Ukraine's path to EU membership, Mathernová clarified that accession would follow once Ukraine has secured peace.

“My projection remains the same—by the end of the decade,” Mathernová stated. “This is also in line with European Council President Charles Michel’s own estimate, so I have 'cover' for this forecast.”

She noted that Ukraine’s EU accession journey involves three major elements: achieving peace, handling the technical requirements of the negotiation process, and completing the political step, which entails ratification by all EU member states.

Earlier, Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, emphasized during his visit to Kyiv on November 9 that Ukraine’s candidacy for EU membership is the most significant security guarantee the EU can offer against Russian aggression.
