Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that European troops could eventually be sent to Ukraine as part of potential agreements to end the ongoing Russia’s war.

His comments came during the Munich Security Conference 2025, where he highlighted that such a move would be a response to proposals advocated by US President Donald Trump.

According to Sikorski, if European forces are included in future security arrangements, European nations would be compelled to provide them. “Sooner or later, we will have to intervene,” he said, emphasizing that the deployment of European troops remains a possibility depending on diplomatic developments.

Sikorski also addressed President Trump’s recent phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, calling it a misstep. He argued that engaging in direct communication with the Kremlin at this stage risks strengthening Moscow’s position while undermining Ukraine’s resilience.

However, he noted that Trump’s proposal to include European forces in a potential agreement means that European nations will be consulted on the matter.

Meanwhile, US Special Representative Keith Kellogg has briefed select European allies on Washington’s negotiation tactics concerning Ukraine. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Sikorski described the US approach as unconventional but noted that it provides a sense of optimism.

“I will not disclose the details here, but the strategy is not conventional. However, we wish them success,” Sikorski said, referring to Kellogg’s briefing.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the establishment of a unified European military force, emphasizing the need for Europe to rely on its own defense capabilities. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, he warned that Russian troops could use upcoming exercises in Belarus as a pretext for aggression against a European country. Zelenskyy stressed that Europe must build its own armed forces to ensure its security independently.
