Events in Syria Show the World That Russia Can Be Defeated, Says Polish PM
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk pointed to the collapse of the Syrian regime as a precedent for how Russia and its allies could ultimately face defeat.
Tusk shared this perspective in a post on the social media platform X on December 8, emphasizing the potential vulnerabilities in alliances supporting authoritarian regimes.
“The events in Syria have made the world realise once again, or at least they should, that even the most cruel regime may fall and that Russia and its allies can be defeated,” Tusk wrote.
On December 8, Syrian opposition forces announced the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad following their capture of Damascus, ending over five decades of authoritarian rule by the Assad dynasty.
Reports indicate that Assad has escaped to Moscow, where Russian authorities have granted asylum to him and his family.
Previously, Ukraine has officially commented on the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and expressing readiness to rebuild relations with Syria in the future.
