A Russian drone attack killed four civilians, including two children, in Ukraine’s Sumy region on September 30. The strike destroyed a family home in the village of Chernechchyna, marking one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent days.
A Russian drone strike destroyed a home in the Sumy region of northeastern Ukraine, killing a family of four, Oleg Hryhorov, head of the regional administration, reported on September 30.
The attack hit the village of Chernechchyna in the Krasnopillia community, where a drone slammed into a residential building.

“In this house lived a married couple with their two sons, aged four and six. All of them were killed, their bodies recovered from the rubble,” Hryhorov said.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that both a two-story and a single-story home were struck, sparking fires. Rescue crews simultaneously battled the flames and searched the debris for survivors.
Officials confirmed that the family’s home collapsed in the strike and that firefighters later pulled the bodies from the ruins.
“This is a terrible and irreparable loss for the entire community and the region. I extend my deepest condolences to the family’s loved ones,” Hryhorov stated.

Earlier, Russia carried out a combined drone and missile assault overnight on September 28, striking Kyiv, the wider Kyiv region, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy. The attacks caused multiple civilian casualties, damaged residential areas, and triggered emergency responses across Ukraine.
At least four people were killed in the capital, including a 12-year-old girl, and more than a dozen others were injured.
