Five Ukrainian Illustrators Longlisted for World Illustration Awards 2025

Five Ukrainian illustrators have been named to the longlist of the prestigious World Illustration Awards 2025, as reported by Suspilne Culture on June 3, citing the competition’s organizers.

Also recognized is a reinterpretation of the cover for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by Viktoriia Kienko. The illustration was developed as part of an academic assignment at the Lviv National Academy of Arts.

Among the selected works is a series of illustrations by Iryna Babanina for Gelsomino in the Country of Liars by Italian author Gianni Rodari. The project was created as a graduation piece at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture.

Jena Polosnina’s cover for H.G. Wells’ The Country of the Blind, designed for the publisher One More Page, also made the list.

Two children’s books were additionally honored: Quack! by Yulia Gvylym, published by The Old Lion Publishing House, which explores self-identity through the story of a tiger cub; and The Story of a Rabbit by Maria Tikhanova—a visual narrative about a small animal witnessing the effects of war.

Earlier, Jenya Polosina had received a top award at the 44th American Illustration Awards for her collage Four Scenarios for Ukraine’s Endgame, originally created for a feature in The New York Times.
