France and UK Propose Security Guarantees for Ukraine, Including Troop Deployment

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France and the United Kingdom have developed a plan to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, which may include the deployment of European troops on Ukrainian territory, Le Figaro reported on February 24.
During a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Macron stated that the security guarantee plan could involve sending European soldiers to Ukraine, but they “will not necessarily be stationed on the front line” and will instead be present “as a guarantee.”
The French president emphasized that European nations “are prepared to go as far as deploying troops in Ukraine to ensure that peace is maintained.”
Macron also welcomed the upcoming meeting of Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the U.S. President.
“We were able to discuss in detail the proposals for building this very strong peace,” continued of state. “We want a quick agreement, but not a fragile one,” he reiterated.
On February 24, U.S. President Donald Trump announced after his meeting at the White House with French President Emmanuel Macron that he is engaged in “serious negotiations” with Russian leader Vladimir Putin aimed at ending Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
