Trump Confirms “Serious Negotiations” With Putin to End War in Ukraine

On February 24, U.S. President Donald Trump announced after his meeting at the White House with French President Emmanuel Macron that he is engaged in “serious negotiations” with Russian leader Vladimir Putin aimed at ending Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
“I am engaged in serious negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin on ending the war, as well as major economic development agreements that will be signed between the United States and Russia. The talks are going very well,” Trump stated.
When asked about the possibility of Ukraine reclaiming lost territories, he acknowledged the challenge, saying, “That’s not an easy thing to do, is it? Right? It’s not an easy thing to do. I was just asking whether or not you could take back the land that they lost. And I say that, yeah, perhaps some of it, yeah. I hope so. But that’s not an easy thing to do. It’s going to be something we’re talking about.”
Trump also commented on Ukraine’s security after a potential resolution, suggesting that European nations would take on the responsibility. He expressed no objections to the deployment of European troops in Ukraine as peacekeeping forces.
Previously, it was reported that U.S. is resisting Ukraine’s proposal to include security guarantees in an agreement on rare earth minerals.
