French President Macron Urges 34 Nations to Plan “Credible Security Guarantees” for Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron urged European and NATO military leaders to begin planning “credible security guarantees” for Ukraine, according to France 24 on March 11.
The discussions took place at a meeting in Paris, bringing together representatives from 34 countries, including most European and NATO members, as well as Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. The United States was not represented at the meeting.
“This is the moment when Europe must throw its full weight behind Ukraine, and itself,” Macron stated, emphasizing the need for a coordinated response. With peace negotiations accelerating, he stressed the importance of ensuring long-term security measures to maintain stability in Ukraine.
France 24 reports, that according to the Elysée Palace, military officials agreed that any security guarantees should align with NATO's capabilities and commitments. The measures should be long-term, credible, and accompanied by ongoing support for Ukraine’s armed forces.
On March 11, Ukraine expressed its readiness to consider a U.S.-proposed 30-day temporary ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement if Russia also agrees and implements the terms simultaneously.
