From Finger Paints to Frontlines: Ukraine’s Longest Canvas Against Russian Drones

A volunteer coalition known as “Ukrainian Team” has unveiled what the National Register of Records confirmed as the country’s longest “Canvas of Unity,” a 52.5-meter banner bearing 2,257 blue-and-yellow heart-shaped handprints by children, created to support a drive for anti-drone net launchers for frontline units.

The canvas, 92 centimeters high, was displayed in Drohobych and entered into Ukraine’s record book, local authorities and media reported.

“This is a new and unique idea for Ukraine—canvas of unity. We measured its length at 52 and a half meters, height at 92 centimeters. And, as my counter showed, there are 2,257 children’s handprints in the shape of hearts in the colors of our Ukrainian flag.

Organizers said the project was designed to keep public attention on fundraising for net launchers to counter drones guided by fiber-optic lines—weapons that electronic warfare cannot jam.

“Many of [the enemy’s] drones fly on fiber optic. EW doesn’t jam them. But Ukrainian engineers created a net launcher that protects even from such drones,” the foundation explained in its campaign announcement.

The group has tied the record to an ongoing drive to procure additional net launchers and has shared examples of the devices in use, underscoring their claimed effectiveness against FPV drones. Volunteer channels and local pages have amplified the fundraiser and the record announcement.

Earlier, it was reported that a Ukrainian defense company introduced MITLA, a lightweight single-use net launcher designed to intercept FPV and reconnaissance drones at short range.
