Fugitive Russian Deserter Accused of Raping and Killing 9-Year-Old Girl in Occupied Donetsk

In the occupied city of Yenakiieve, Donetsk region, 32-year-old Alexey Ch., a native of Sverdlovsk Oblast, who had previously served time for sexual assault and was recruited to fight in the war against Ukraine, allegedly raped and killed a 9-year old girl, according to The Moscow Times, which cited Ostorozhno, Novosti, on September 9.

The girl went missing on September 5 while out walking. Locals searched for two days before police detained the suspect, identified as a “war hero” who had deserted his unit in 2023 and had been wanted since 2024.

Relatives said Alexey Ch. had been hiding for about a year in the home of the girl’s grandmother. After his arrest, he reportedly revealed the location where he committed the crime and buried the body, approximately 500 meters from the grandmother’s house.

Previously, it was reported that Russia was bracing for the return of hundreds of thousands of troops from Ukraine, many of whom have been fighting for several years.

While some are expected to be welcomed as heroes, analysts warn that a significant number of returning fighters—especially those with criminal pasts—are bringing a surge of violence and instability once they come home, Reuters reported.
