Russian Soldier Shoots Unarmed Civilian Near Pokrovsk, Donetsk Region

On the Pokrovsk front, another war crime committed by Russian forces has been documented—Russian soldier shot dead an unarmed civilian, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported on August 18.
A Telegram channel published a video recorded near Rodynske in the Pokrovsk district. The footage shows a Russian serviceman with a white armband opening aimed fire at a civilian. Afterward, he approached the victim, who was already lying on the road, inspected the body, and fled the scene.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of the laws and customs of war resulting in the death of a person.

The investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office. Urgent investigative and search activities are underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime and identify the Russian servicemen involved.
This marks the fourth time in recent weeks that Russian troops have been documented executing civilians in Donetsk region. According to Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General, a Russian soldier shot and killed a man attempting to evacuate from the village of Udachne in Pokrovskyi district.
A video published on a Telegram channel, and cited by prosecutors, shows the civilian walking along the roadside with a suitcase when a Russian soldier, positioned inside a destroyed building, opened fire.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian troops executed three Ukrainian prisoners of war in the village of Novopil, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region.
