Germany is stepping up its support for Ukraine’s energy security, committing around $70 million to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on October 24, the funding is designated to expedite the delivery of essential supplies, including generators, energy equipment, and mobile thermal power plants.

The announcement came after Svyrydenko’s meeting with Germany’s Economy Minister Katherina Reiche, where the primary focus was on Ukraine's winter preparations and long-term energy resilience. The officials agreed to establish a joint working group on energy and to expand industrial cooperation. These efforts will be showcased at a Ukrainian-German business forum in Berlin this December, designed to foster new business partnerships.

During the discussions, Ukraine proposed a bilateral intergovernmental agreement with Germany to support investors, citing successful models already implemented with partners like Denmark, the Netherlands, France, and Switzerland.

Svyrydenko also thanked Germany for its strong position on utilizing frozen Russian assets.

“Today, macro-financial support is particularly important, and our German partners support any path that allows these assets to be used to help Ukraine and end the war as soon as possible,” Ukrainian PM wrote in Telegram.

Earlier, German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche arrived in Kyiv on October 24 to discuss measures for strengthening Ukraine's energy resilience and deepening defense-industry cooperation amidst intensified Russian strikes on the country’s infrastructure.
