Germany has reportedly ordered more than 1,000 Mercedes-Benz Zetros military trucks for Ukraine, supplementing over 340 vehicles already delivered, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) on October 7.

The contract, which was not publicly announced, was allegedly placed with Daimler Truck, one of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers.

FAZ noted that the German government likely financed the purchase but has classified details about its future military support for Ukraine. Daimler Truck declined to comment on the reported deal.

The Zetros is produced by Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, a division of Daimler Truck, and is known for its performance in off-road and extreme conditions.

The 6×6 configuration, commonly used by militaries in over ten countries, allows the truck to transport heavy loads, including armored vehicles such as the M113, as shown in photos shared by Lithuania’s Armed Forces.

For Ukraine, logistics vehicles like the Zetros remain a critical element of operational mobility. As FAZ points out, Ukrainian forces have faced long-standing shortages of transport equipment due to industrial limitations and funding constraints.

The addition of more than a thousand new trucks is expected to significantly strengthen Ukraine’s logistical infrastructure once production and delivery are complete.

The reported Zetros order marks one of the largest known vehicle contracts under Germany’s classified assistance program.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced a €351 million program to supply Ukraine with several thousand long-range drones for deep strikes, produced by the Ukrainian defense industry.
