Germany to Invest €70 Million in Ukraine's Decentralized Power and Heating Systems
The German government has allocated €70 million to support the creation and strengthening of a decentralized energy and heat supply system in Ukraine, as part of its ongoing aid efforts, DW reported on September 25.
The Bundestag Budget Committee approved the funding package aimed at enhancing Ukraine’s heat and power infrastructure, according to a report from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The funds will be used to equip Ukrainian cities and communities with small combined heat and power plants, boilers, generators, and solar panels. This initiative is designed to establish a decentralized energy network, providing a more flexible and reliable power supply, especially as winter heating season approaches.
According to the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the decentralized energy system will help mitigate the worst effects of power disruptions in affected regions, ensuring essential facilities such as community centers, hospitals, and schools can maintain energy independence.
Germany’s Economic Cooperation Minister Svenja Schulze noted the resilience of the decentralized approach, adding that it would be “not so easy” for Russia to destroy Ukraine’s new energy infrastructure.
Earlier, Ukrainian President stated that Russia plans to attack three key Ukrainian nuclear power plants in order to destroy Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
At the same time, Lithuania announced that Lithuanian power plant is being dismantled for transfer to Ukraine.
