All of Ukraine’s hydroelectric power plants have been targeted by Russian attacks, resulting in a loss of about 40% of generation capacity.

This information was reported by Ihor Syrota, the general director of “Ukrhydroenergo,” during a broadcast on the national telethon.

“Unfortunately, there isn’t a single station that hasn’t been attacked by the Russian aggressor. Over 130 missile strikes have hit our facilities. We are acutely aware of the significant losses we’ve sustained,” Syrota stated.

He noted that the Kakhovka HPP was completely destroyed, and the Dnipro HPP suffered severe damage. All other hydroelectric power plants are currently undergoing restoration efforts.

“We’re still uncertain about how much can be restored. The goal is to recover as much as possible by the autumn-winter period, but this is a challenging task. If not every week, then every month, there are ongoing missile strikes. We plan for one scenario, but the enemy has different plans, making it very difficult to predict anything today,” Syrota added.

He also highlighted that Ukrainian hydropower plants have lost about 40% of their generation capacity, while thermal power stations have lost more than 80%. These generation sources are crucial for balancing the Ukrainian energy system, leading to a deficit in balancing generation.

The Kyiv HPP was targeted during a massive attack on August 26. According to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, the station was not critically damaged.

Local authorities and energy experts have emphasized that there are currently no threats to the Kyiv HPP, as it cannot be destroyed by missile strikes.
