Historic Kyiv Teacher’s House, Damaged by Russian Missile, Joins Global Restoration Program

The Kyiv Teacher’s House, damaged during a Russian missile attack in October 2022, has been included in the Watch 2025 program by the World Monuments Fund (WMF), creating opportunities to secure international resources and restore the historic landmark amid Ukraine’s war-limited domestic resources. The announcement was made by Valentyn Mondryivskyi, Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration, on January 28.
The World Monuments Watch program mobilizes actions and resources to protect sites vital to global heritage, historical memory, and Ukraine’s national unity.
“The restoration of the Kyiv Teacher’s House will not only preserve a piece of historical heritage but also strengthen cooperation in education, culture, and international diplomacy,” said Mondryivskyi.

The building hosted key moments in Ukraine’s statehood, including the proclamation of the Fourth Universal of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in 1918 and the All-Ukrainian Teachers’ Congress in 1917, which laid the foundation for a modern Ukrainian school system.
Restoration efforts following missile damage have already been supported by the WMF through the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation and the US Embassy in Kyiv.

The WMF has now allocated funds for emergency restoration of the main façade to preserve the monument. Plans for its revival include the establishment of an international center for innovative educational models and the organization of joint events with over 150 diplomatic missions based in Kyiv.

The WMF, a global leader in heritage preservation, has carried out over 700 projects in 112 countries.
“We extend our gratitude to every progressive nation that stands with the Ukrainian people, reinforcing our identity and resilience,” Mondryivskyi emphasized.
Previously, an exhibition titled “From Odesa to Berlin: European Painting of the 16th-19th Centuries” has opened at the Berlin Art Gallery (Gemäldegalerie.) The display features 60 works from the collection of the Odesa Museum of Western and Eastern Art, which were evacuated due to the war in Ukraine.
