“I Didn’t Even Know Who We Were Fighting Against,” North Korean Soldier Speaks Out
A North Korean soldier captured by Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces in Russia’s Kursk region allegedly served in a reconnaissance battalion and claimed he was unaware of whom he would be fighting against.
This was revealed in a video shared by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on January 20, featuring a Security Service of Ukraine officer interviewing a captured North Korean soldier.
The North Korean soldier stated that some of his comrades were trained to operate heavy Russian military equipment, though he claimed not to have undergone such training himself.
“I didn’t know before coming to Russia that I would be fighting here, in Russia. And I didn’t even know who we were fighting against,” the North Korean soldier stated.
When asked what did he know about the world outside of North Korea, the POW said: “Not much,” adding that what he knows about South Korea is that it has less mountains than North Korea.
On January 13, reports revealed that North Korean troops stationed in Russia’s Kursk region have allegedly been ordered to commit suicide rather than risk being captured by Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
