If Iran Wasn’t Enough, North Korea Has Also Sent Missiles to Russia to Shoot at Ukraine
North Korea has supplied Russia with additional shipments of Hwasong-11 short-range ballistic missiles, defying international sanctions, according to The New York Times. The findings were disclosed by War Armament Research, an independent organization based in Britain that monitors weapons used in wars globally.
Recent analysis conducted by War Armament Research in Kyiv revealed remnants of four Hwasong-11 missiles. The missiles, which were used in attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian locations, displayed production markings indicating they were manufactured recently.
Damien Spleeters, who leads War Armament Research’s operations in Ukraine, emphasized the significance of the findings, noting the close timeline between the production, transfer, and deployment of the missiles. Spleeters highlighted that this is not an isolated incident but part of a continued pattern of sanctions evasion.
The Hwasong-11, a missile with a range of approximately 430 miles, can be equipped with either nuclear or conventional warheads. The missile’s design is similar to the Russian Iskander, raising questions about potential foreign assistance in its development.
In addition to North Korean missile transfers, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently confirmed that Iran has also supplied short-range ballistic missiles to Russia. This development has prompted new US sanctions against Iran. The U.K., Germany, and France have also condemned Iran’s actions and announced plans for further sanctions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has noted that while details about the use of Iranian missiles in Ukraine are still being verified, the information aligns with broader intelligence reports.
