India Joins Russia-Belarus Zapad-2025 Military Drills for the First Time

India has deployed troops to Russian-led military exercises Zapad-2025, as tensions between New Delhi and Washington continue to grow.
This was reported by The Times on September 15.
The Zapad drills involve around 30,000 Russian and Belarusian troops, featuring ballistic missile launches and simulated airstrikes across a wide area—from bases east of Moscow and the Arctic to the Baltic Sea and Belarus’s western frontier near Poland and Lithuania.

As reported by The Times with reference to India’s Ministry of Defense, 65 personnel, including members of the Kumaon Brigade—one of the country’s most renowned units—have joined the exercise. They are stationed at the Mulino training ground, about 40 miles west of Nizhny Novgorod, away from NATO borders.
Delhi said its goal was to “further strengthen defense co-operation and foster camaraderie between India and Russia, thereby reinforcing the spirit of collaboration and mutual trust.” The ministry added that Indian troops will participate in joint training, tactical drills, and weapons exercises alongside Russian forces.
Earlier, it was reported that Rafale fighter jets from the French Air and Space Force, reportedly capable of carrying nuclear weapons, have been deployed to Poland
