Rutte emphasized that NATO's involvement in peace negotiations will focus specifically on the aspects related to the alliance, stating, “Obviously, when it comes to NATO elements of a deal to end the war against Ukraine, it will be dealt separately, and it will obviously include NATO.”
The NATO chief further expressed support for the United States’ role in putting forward proposals for peace.
“We need to start somewhere. We need to have proposals on the table,” he noted.

He also acknowledged ongoing discussions between the Ukrainian side and international counterparts, including meetings in Geneva and Miami, as well as recent negotiations with the Russian side.
The NATO Secretary General reiterated that the alliance is closely monitoring the situation as diplomatic efforts continue.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the importance of ending the war in a way that prevents Russia from initiating a third invasion of Ukraine.
He stated that any decisions regarding the conclusion of the war must be fair, transparent, and prioritize Ukraine's interests.
